The Life of a Squatter

I moved to the Mission District from South of Market about 2 weeks ago. It’s been an interesting transition; I went from a gorgeous, clean high rise in a fairly quiet area, to an old semi run down Victorian on a street where trash collection starts at 4:00 am (everyday!) and my most common thought while walking outside is usually, “oh lord WHAT is that smell?” Mysterious odors aside, I do prefer the Mission over SoMa because it offers more in terms of entertainment and dining options… it has a ton of character... and it’s a great way for me to practice my Spanish.

To help the universe move a little faster in assisting with my job AND apartment search, I went to a few thrift stores last week in my neighborhood to get some ideas for the “soon to be” place (to be determined). I’ve decided that buying all my new household goods used will not only lessen my ecological footprint, but it might make me feel better for having to sell/give away all my fairly home furnishings prior to moving out here (on second thought, I'm actually quite over it). And besides, as awesome as IKEA is, that stuff just doesn’t last.

I was really surprised at the amount of really cool stuff in most of the Thrift shops on Mission street. While I was only “feeling” about, I did pick up a cool new coffee mug and found a pair of brandy glasses for my friend V (one of which he broke no less than an hour after I brought it home!) Oh, and who can forget this priceless gem that I spotted at my local $1 store:

Party Hats!

Oh, Ikea. Glory be.

N: they will be the official party hat of Kirsten's 31st birthday.

S: IKEA, well... the meatballs don't fall apart and/or easily chip.

mmm Mission District, I had the best and biggest burrito there few years ago.

A: lots of big delicious burritos in these parts! (and a ton of other great fare too, i'm gonna get so fat!)
