NaBloPoMo Day 15: Lives Per Gallon
Truth be told, despite the sickening feeling I get in my gut when I think or read about it, I wanted to see it. By the time word got out about how serious the spill really was, oil had moved out of the bay to further stain the shoreline. All of the beaches in the area have been closed for clean up and crews arrived to remove marine animal carcasses.
While at the Golden Gate Fields race track this past Sunday in North Berkley, we stumbled upon one of the closed beaches. Despite the brightly colored “caution” signs, we climbed over to explore and poke through the clumps of oil coated rocks and sea life. Sad doesn’t even begin to describe it. Naturally, I took some photos… and I was taken aback by the eerie beauty of it all:
