I had a traumatizing bat experience when I lived in an upstairs apartment in this big Victorian house in Binghamton. I used to love bats - it was cool seeing them fly around at night - but that feeling changes real quick when you have one flying kamakaze routes at your head in your tiny apartment at 2:00 in the morning as you flail weakly at it with a tennis racket.
Long story short: the bat lived and was let loose outdoors; I slept poorly for weeks. My downstairs neighbor woke up to one circling above her bed and had to get rabies shots (they can bite you without you waking up or knowing that it happened, so if you wake up to see one you absolutely need to get rabies shots). There was a bat family living in the walls of the house.
M: I was just minding my own business on the computer late last thursday evening - and wham! a bat was flying around in my bedroom. i took the photo before we tried to trap him (her).
P: if only. easier to eliminate.
E: it's not nearly as bad as the house on west spruce street.
A: yes. they can have rabies. and the rabies, i don't want.
N: my parents got it out (via the front door) 2 nights later. i slept in my sister's room in the meantime. my dad actually expected me to sleep "with a bat flying around my room" that first night because he (she?) flew up into the rafters and we could not get it down. whatever!
and i woke up with bat poo in my bed too. that was unecessary.
G: Yeah, I've had one too many encounters with bats already in my lifetime - a few that have involved tennis rackets and oven mits. I've woken up with one flying around my room before and was only advised to get a rabies shot(s) if biten. Great, thanks for making this hypochondriac feel at ease!
Um, so are they "in season" right now? I came home late last night to discover one on my bathroom curtain, just as I was taking out my contacts. I promptly got the F out of there, closed the door & called my ex to get rid of it. I wish I could say this was the first incident at my house (which is NOT in the rustic area that K lives in). Several years ago another one showed up on New Years Eve. Not my kind of party. **shudder**

Are you sure it was a real bat and not just a metaphor of male sexuality?

One more reason I am glad I don't like there anymore.

M: yep, he/she got to live.
P: I think they are. My previous bat experiences also happened around this time of year.
