My real name (not Noelle) is one that is often pronounced incorrectly, because there is another common name that is very similar to it (but spelled differently.) I love that New Yorker cartoon, because I hear you, sister.
Damn, how did you find that? It's funny. People never get my name, and when they find out they mispronounced it and that I didn't correct them they get offended, like I didn't think they were worthy of saying my name correctly, or something like that. I don't know. I tend to offend people.
P: a co-worker (also named Kirsten) who seems to think my name is Kristin [ultimate Kirsten faux paus!] had it up on her office door - and another co-worker of mine, xerox'ed it for me...
but yeah, people DO take it personally when you don't correct them (most of the time, I do... they just don't listen/remember)... my gym teacher in highschool - on the very last day of class, senior year... looks down at my name on her list, then up and me and says, "your name is not Kristin, it's Kirsten! I've been calling ou Kristin for 4 years!!! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME!"
uh, I did...
M: I would look SO HOT in a big ol' white sweatshirt. I'll have to get a nice turtleneck to go underneath it.
ha, i forgot that was her "real" name! oh man, why oh why would someone want to be called a baked item. personally, i would take "pound cake" over "cookie" anyday.

You'd think that someone named 'Cookie' would pay more attention to people's names...

C: ah yes... that one I'm quite flexible on. I'm trained to respond to both.
