Perks

I finally received my wine industry discount card, entitling me to a good percentage off wine produced at most of the wineries in New York state. And my tasting fee is gratis.

I stopped by one of the more popular wineries on Seneca Lake yesterday. After presenting my card, I asked the pourer how many tastings I’m entitled to.

“Oh YOU get to try however many you want...” She said with a smile. I glanced over at some of the other tasters and beamed with superiority.

Great, I’ll try your standard Chardonnay, semi-dry Riesling, and the sweet Riesling… oh and throw in a sample of that $25 Pinot Noir, the $30 Reserve Riesling, the $45 Meritage... and maybe some of that sold out Lemberger for kicks and giggles (I don’t even like dry, tannic reds!)

I left with what ended up being a $10 bottle of pretty darn good Riesling. I love Riesling.

I think this card is going to lead me toward more evil, than good.

Comments

I love going to the wineries in my area. That card would get me in a lot of trouble, because while they're all close, none are in walking distance...

Is this card related to some sort of club or something anyone can join? We go on a couple wine tours a year.

Wow. I am insanely jealous.

Riesling...YUM! I love plum wine as well -- the sweeter, the better. Good score!

N: that's why it is totally OK to take a nap within the grapevines.

M; no, you need to work part time as a wine pourer in a winery.

S: well, come out and see me and I'll hook you up!

C: I enjoy a nice, chilled plum wine myself - with either Chinese Dim Sum or Japanese habachi. NY's a producer of many very sweet wines!

Rieslings rock - I like dry rieslings a bit better

I'm a semi dry fan myself. but there are days that i will indulge in a little semi sweet. so many good rieslings around here!

I'm currently housesitting for a wine distributor - they left all sorts of wine for me to finish. Unfortunately, I don't drink wine so it's a bit of a waste. Be jealous you're not in NYC.
