the who, what, where of my thesis muse
Strong emphasis on the where. Thesis muse, where are thou?
I'm having a hard time staying on task for my thesis proposal. To say that I am “easily distracted” would be putting it mildly. Google homepage, the randomizer, mop & bucket - I shake my fist at you!
To those of you who've been through this sort of thing before - how do you stay motivated on a project that requires total autonomy and mind numbing loneliness? I’m seeking advice and words of encouragement... perhaps even a verbal ass kicking is due. Tell me your secrets!
Now I’m tempted to write down what I had for dinner this evening, along with a complete synopsis of last night’s dream, topped off with a poem (a real lengthy one, about birds and hope) then calling it a day! (Save meeeeeeeeee.)
FYI: I was sent a copy of the commercial this morning. Man oh man oh man oh man.
FYI2: Heroes is on tonight. See? Distracted.

hmm, i'm not sure if this will work for you, but it always helps me to break down my work into individual tasks and to write them all down in list form. Then you can go through the list and find the ones that are most bareable to do :)
take lotsa little baby steps! they add up!

When I was working on my thesis I used to pack all my stuff and camp out at Barnes & Noble with my laptop. That way I could work but still feel near people, and when I needed a break I could grab a coffee and pick up a book. Of course, I spent about 8 hours a day in there, but whatever.

M: i actually did get that far already. i call it my battleplan :)
S: i do find that i am very productive at a local cafe with free wifi, here. the only problem is the "cannot seem to stop drinking the coffee because i feel guity for mooching free internet all day." that, and the last time i was there, i had to put my headphones on because some woman next to me kept talking to her self.
